We Fall Down

~We Fall Down~

A stone of Remembrance

This piano cover of “We Fall Down” was created to compliment your quiet times with the Lord. It has special meaning to me. Please listen during your personal prayer times, scripture reading, or just peaceful contemplation.

You may have a specific worship song that comes to mind ; one that brings back fond memories of a particular time or event in your past. For me, being a musician, these times of remembrance are definitely marked with worship songs. Each song represents a hurdle or mountain climbed, a stone of remembrance, an altar to the Lord of His faithfulness and goodness to me. Songs helps me remember and identify what God was doing at that particular time in my life. Each song I record has a way of bringing remembrance to a moment in my past. Perhaps, you recall where you were standing in church as you worshipped the Lord or you remember a particular experience that brought you closer to Him. You can remember the moment based on a song. In 2001, our youngest daughter was born. It was also the year Chris Tomlin released “We Fall Down”.

As worship team members, my husband and I had many early morning rehearsals with our three children in tow. It was a special time for our little family, a new era of awakening and a fresh spiritual journey with the Lord...a new beginning. We began to experience what following Jesus was truly about… a relationship with Him, not just a set of requirements or rules to be followed, etc. During those years, we were blessed to use our God-given abilities in new ways, learning and growing in our spiritual walk. It was a time of renewed faith and learning to trust Him more...a special time in our lives as a young family.

Recently, God has been speaking to me about this song in particular and what “laying our crowns at the feet of Jesus” really means. Although I always loved playing the song, I sort of wondered, “What does that mean….to lay our crowns?” We know that the top of our head is our crown, so bowing before the Lord made sense, but there is so much more than that. In digging deeper, I discovered that the jewels and decorations on a “crown” actually represent our human efforts, our diverse accomplishments and achievements.

To “cast our crowns at the feet of Jesus” really means to humble ourselves before Jesus; to surrender our own sense of authority, our titles, our possessions, accolades, or “prizes” we’ve accumulated. When we give Jesus our best possessions, those things that have given us our earthly identity, we’re saying that we surrender all that we are. We give up the “I’m all that” mentality. We give back to Jesus what we don’t deserve...the crowns we have earned become meaningless in light of all that He has done for us. We’re saying, “Lord, You’ve given me so much already, I don’t deserve these jewels.”

Finally, when we have surrendered ourselves completely to Him, we can fully accept His mercy and love as we worship singing:

“We Fall Down

We lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus

The greatness of His mercy and love, at the feet of Jesus

We cry Holy, Holy, Holy

We cry Holy, Holy, Holy

We cry Holy, Holy, Holy

Is the Lamb.”

“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty” ~ Isaiah 6:3

I hope these words have been an encouragement to you.
